- When playing the 10th hole, if the player must take relief under Rule 13.1f because their ball came to rest on the putting green of the 12th hole or that putting green interferes with their stance or area of intended swing:
- In finding the relief area to be used when taking this relief, the putting green of the 12th hole is defined to include the area of fairway within one club-length from the edge of the putting green.
- This means that the nearest point of complete relief must avoid interference from this area in addition to the putting green.
Penalty for playing the ball from a wrong place in breach of Local Rule: General Penalty (Rule 14.7a) |
These Winter Local Rules are in effect only when "Preferred Lies" is displayed on the main course signboard behind the 18th green. - Preferred lies: When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball (or another ball) in, and playing it from, the relief area, defined as follows:
- Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
- Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the
reference point, but with these limits:
- Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
- Must be in the general area.
In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b and 14.2e. But, for the purposes of applying Rule 14.2e, the player has only chosen the spot on which to place the ball once the ball has been set down, and the player has let the ball go with the intent for that ball to be in play. After a ball has been placed and is in play under this Local Rule, if the player then proceeds under another Rule that provides relief, this Local Rule may be used again. Note: it is wise to mark the position of the ball before picking it up to ensure it is replaced within 6 inches; the ball may be cleaned before replacing; once replaced the ball may not be picked up again until another stroke has been played. - Abnormal ground conditions: If the player’s ball lies on or touches a tyre track caused by greenkeeping vehicles, or such a track interferes with the player’s area of intended swing, relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 16.1. However, relief is not allowed if a tyre track only interferes with the player’s stance.
- Abnormal ground conditions: When play is from the artificial mats, all grass teeing areas, whether roped off or not, are designated "No Play Zones" (Rule 2.4) with the following exceptions
- when teeing off from the winter tee on the 5th hole
- when teeing off from the winter tee on the 10th hole (red/blue markers)
When interference occurs with stance and/or swing relief must be taken in accordance with Rule 16.1.
Penalty for playing the ball from a wrong place in breach of Local Rule: General Penalty (Rule 14.7a) IMPORTANT: Should there be a temporary accumulation of water, free relief is available under Rule 16.1; and when the ball lies embedded within the general area, free relief is available under Rule 16.3. |
Players must not unnecessarily delay play. (Rule 5.6) Players should endeavour to keep pace with the group ahead. Some simple actions can assist with this goal: - Always be ready to play by preparing while others are playing their shot
- If there is any doubt as to a ball being in play or lost, always play a provisional ball in accordance with Rule 18.3
- If there is doubt regarding a rules procedure, play a second ball in accordance with Rule 20; do not attempt to get a ruling from the committee unless an official is immediately available
- If there is more than a clear hole ahead, allow groups behind to play through
- Do not mark scorecards on the green; move to the next tee and mark them there
- Around the green, place bags/trolleys at a point closest to the route to the next tee
- Practise "Ready Golf"
- (Except in match play) the first player ready should play from the tee
- Shorter hitters should play first if safe to do so if longer hitters need to wait
- If a player needs time to assess their shot, others should play first
- Play your shot before helping look for lost balls
- Do not wait for everyone to reach the green before putting out unless they are ready to play
- Do not mark balls on the green unnecessarily
